Why Absolute Equality Fails
Chapter One: A Scene from a Train Station In a crowded Mumbai station, two men waited: A strong young man. An elderly man struggling to stand. There were only two seats. An official forced both to sit in one narrow seat—“equality for all.” Result? Neither was comfortable. This reflects a deeper issue: absolute equality ignores natural differences.
Chapter Two: The Core Mistake People confuse equality with justice. Equality: treat everyone the same. Justice: give each what suits them. Equality divides apples equally. Justice gives more to the hungry.
Chapter Three: Humans Are Not Identical Men and women differ. Rich and poor differ. Educated and uneducated differ. The Qur’an states: {and the male is not like the female. ĀLI ‘IMRĀN-36} Difference is not deficiency—it is wisdom.
Chapter Four: Islam—A Religion of Justice Islam is not a religion of absolute equality, but of justice. Then is one who was a believer like one who was defiantly disobedient? They are not equal.AS-SAJDAH -18
{"Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" } AZ-ZUMAR -9 {Not equal are those believers remaining [at home] }AN-NISĀ-95 But also: {Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct }AN-NAḤL -90
“Chapter Seven: Practical Reflection Do you treat your child the same as an adult? Do you treat your wife the same as your brother? No. Because justice is not sameness.
Conclusion: Which Path Will You Choose? Absolute equality: appears fair, but creates imbalance. Justice: acknowledges differences and builds harmony.
{Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct }AN-NAḤL -90 {We have already sent Our messengers with clear evidences and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that the people may maintain [their affairs] in justice. AL‑ḤADEED -25} Justice is the balance. If you seek fairness—look into Islam.
