The Question That Does Not Disappear!

(1) Introduction: When You Look at the Sky

Lift your eyes at night. Imagine that you are standing beneath a vast dome of stars, countless galaxies, suns that have been burning for millions of years, planets rotating in majestic silence. Then look at yourself… a small body on a speck of dust in an immense universe.

01

Yet despite this smallness, a tremendous question emerges from within you: Why am I here?

02

How can a limited creature carry a question as vast as the universe?

03

Who placed this anxiety within you?

And why does it not quiet down?

Repeated global surveys indicate that more than 80% of humans believe in the existence of a higher power or a reality that transcends this material world. In fact, a large percentage of those who define themselves as non-religious acknowledge that life has a “greater meaning” beyond mere biological survival.

It is as if all of humanity hears the same call.

(2) The Claim: Merely a Cosmic Coincidence

An idea is proposed that we are the result of blind interaction, and that the universe has no intention.

But let us try to live this idea honestly.

If everything is coincidence, then your love is coincidence, your pain is coincidence, your mother is coincidence, and your dreams are coincidence.

So why does sorrow feel so real? And why does injustice feel like an unbearable crime?

Research in moral psychology indicates that humans — from distant cultures — share basic principles such as rejecting unjust killing and protecting the weak. Where did this agreement come from if there is no higher standard?

The Qur’an confronts the idea of absurdity directly:

“Did you think that We created you in vain and that to Us you would not be returned? So exalted is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.”

There is a return… and therefore there is meaning.

(3) The Mind: Powerful but Not Everything

The mind can measure the speed of light, calculate the age of stars, and decode the atom.

But when it asks: Why do the laws exist? Why is there something instead of nothing? — here confusion begins.

It is like a skilled reader, but without the book’s introduction or conclusion.

It sees the details… and searches for intention.

“We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth.”

Revelation does not cancel the mind; it completes it.

(4) The Purpose That Reorders Life

The answer Islam provides directly:

“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. I do not want from them any provision, nor do I want them to feed Me. Indeed, Allah is the Provider, the Possessor of Strength, the Firm.”

To know the One who brought you into existence, and to walk according to His wisdom.

Suddenly life becomes interconnected. Pain is understood, success is a test, and time is capital.

(5) Fitrah: The First Memory

Islam tells you that your knowledge of God is not foreign to you. It is planted at the origin.

“So direct your face toward the religion, inclining to truth — the fitrah of Allah upon which He created people. There is no change in the creation of Allah.”

And the Prophet ﷺ said:

“No newborn is born except upon the fitrah.”

Some studies in cognitive science indicate that children naturally tend to interpret events as having intention behind them.

It is as if the soul knows before it is taught.

(6) Imagine the End

Imagine that all the injustices you witnessed will be judged, every tear will be accounted for, and every question will find its answer.

Is this not necessary for meaning to be complete?

“So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.”

Even an atom has weight in the reckoning.

(7) Conclusion

Between a distant galaxy and a cell in your body, between a star that is born and another that dies, you stand… carrying the question.

And Islam does not leave you wandering. It gives you a clear beginning, a path, and a just ending.

You are no longer a coincidence… you have become a story.
