Every Human Seeks Justice… But Who Owns Its Definition?

The Quran: The Only Path That Doesn’t Ask You to Invent a Measure

There are things that humans agree on… without agreeing on them.

01

Justice is one of them.

02

No one likes oppression.

03

And no one sees it as acceptable when it falls upon them.

Yet, throughout history, humans have never succeeded in defining justice in a way that doesn’t change.

The Problem Was Never Rejecting Oppression… But Defining It

What makes something “just”?

Is it what you think is right?

Or what society sees as right?

Or what power imposes?

History gives a clear answer:

Whenever the scale changes… the definition of justice changes.

What was acceptable… becomes a crime.

And what was rejected… becomes a “right.”

Not because the truth has changed… but because the scale itself was not stable.

Humans Don’t Lack the Desire for Justice… They Lack a Reference

Every human feels justice.

But this feeling… is not enough.

Because it is influenced by:

Desire…

Fear…

Self-interest…

Environment…

That’s why…

A person may defend “justice” and, at the same time… wrong others.

Without even realizing it.

Here Comes the Question You Cannot Overlook

If a person is:

Limited in knowledge,

Influenced by their interests,

Fluctuating in judgment,

How can they be… the source of ultimate justice?

The Quran Doesn’t Start with Defining Justice… But with Correcting Its Source

It doesn’t just lay down rules… it defines who has the right to set them.

Justice in the Quran…

Is not the result of human agreement.

It is a quality of the Creator.

(This Is Why the Quran’s Address Is Direct

Indeed, AllŒh orders justice and good conduct and giving [help] to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded).(AN-NAḤL:90)

A short sentence…

But it moves justice from the level of “opinion”

To the level of “command.”

Justice Here… Is Not a Choice

Nor a relative value…

But a directive from the Creator:

One who knows… and is never ignorant.

One who encompasses… and never errs.

One who is not influenced… and does not sway.

And When a Person Is Commanded to Justice… They Are Commanded to Do Something That May Go Against Their Own Self

The Quran does not address your comfortable side.

It addresses you where the test is:

(O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for AllŒh, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, AllŒh is more worthy of both.[1] So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just.

And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed AllŒh is ever, of what you do, Aware).

This is not a casual sentence.

To be just against yourself… means to step outside of your position.

To stand…

Look…

And judge…

As if you are not a party.

And This Is What a Person Cannot Do on Their Own

Because the self…

Justifies.

Beautifies.

Softens.

That’s why… a person needs a scale outside themselves.

The Quran Doesn’t Just Command… It Creates This Scale

A scale that does not change with people’s transformations…

That does not lean with the power of reality…

That is not redefined every generation…

But remains constant… because its source is constant.

This Is Why the Difference Shows in the Most Delicate Situations

Even in disputes… where bias becomes stronger…

The guidance comes clearly:

(O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for AllŒh, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear AllŒh; indeed, AllŒh is [fully] Aware of what you do).(AL‑MĀ’IDAH:8)

Justice here… does not stop at feelings.

It does not stop at “who you love”… or “who you hate”…

It continues… even when you do not want it.

And This Is the Fundamental Difference

Human justice… is influenced by circumstances.

But the justice the Quran presents… remains…

Despite any circumstance.

And Here the Scene Expands

Justice in the Quran…

Doesn’t end at the boundaries of this world.

It extends to the hereafter.

Where no rights are lost… no scales are mixed up.

Because Life Alone… Is Not Enough to Achieve Complete Justice

How many oppressed people have not been avenged?

How many wrongdoers have not been held accountable?

If everything ended here… there would remain an unclosed gap.

(And We place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all. And if there is [even] the weight of a mustard seed,[1] We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as accountant.)(AL‑ANBIYĀ’:47 )

Not because justice is absent… but because it is deferred in its completeness.

And so… justice no longer remains just a value…

But becomes:

A way of life… and a destiny you await.

The Question That Puts Everything in Its Place

Can true justice exist…

Without a fixed reference?

Without complete knowledge?

Without final accountability?

The Quran Doesn’t Discuss the Idea… It Sets the Path

A path that does not ask you:

To invent justice…

But to adhere to it.

A Quiet Invitation… But a Decisive One

In a world where standards change every day…

Ask yourself:

Do I want justice… that changes with people?

Or justice… that does not change because its source is higher than people?

Conclusion

Humans have never been incapable of loving justice…

But they have always been incapable…

Of protecting it by themselves.
