The Creator — Chance or Design?
Have you ever paused to ask yourself: why does everything around us operate with such stunning harmony? From the motion of electrons in our atoms to planets revolving in their orbits… from the beating of our hearts to the flow of ocean currents… everything seems built with astonishing precision. Could all of this be mere chance?
Or is there a wise Creator — an intelligent Designer — behind it all? Today, we’ll take you on an exploration of the universe and its Maker through ten scientific, philosophical, and innate (“fitrah”) angles, with real-life examples, accurate figures, and true stories — supported by the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah.
1: The Unity of Patterns in the Universe The universe is not chaotic. It runs on a unified pattern — from atoms to galaxies. Electrons orbit their nuclei in stable levels, much like planets orbit the sun. Arteries and blood vessels resemble the spiral arms of galaxies.
Migratory birds travel thousands of kilometers with remarkable accuracy using Earth’s magnetic field. Chromosomes in almost every human cell carry the same basic information, despite differences in appearance and skin color.
Real example: the emperor penguin’s annual migration across Antarctica, covering vast distances while relying on the sun, stars, and Earth’s magnetic field — all within a stable, harmonious system. Qur’an: {And of all things We created two mates [i.e., counterparts]; perhaps you will remember.
“5: Who Created the Creator? — The Meaning of “As-Samad” The question “Who created the Creator?” misunderstands what God is. As-Samad means: the One who needs nothing, while all creation depends on Him. An infinite chain of commanders with no ultimate authority produces no action — because nothing ever truly begins.
Existence requires a First, independent source. Qur’an: {AllŒh, the Eternal Refuge.
6: The Human Being Is Dependent — Not Self-Sustaining A person does not control: brain development heartbeats lung function cellular repair and renewal These continue without our command. Qur’an: {O mankind, you are those in need of AllŒh} (Fatir 35:15)
7: The Physics of Senses and the Limits of Perception Humans see only a narrow band of light: 400–700 nm. We hear only a limited frequency range. Some animals see ultraviolet or infrared. So our perception is partial — and not the measure of all reality.
Qur’an (meaning): God is beyond being fully contained by human sight, while He fully encompasses all.
8: Biological Harmony in Living Creatures A seagull’s eye can adapt to vision with refraction in watery environments. A gazelle’s vision helps it detect predators across wide angles. A newborn’s immune system receives early protection via antibodies.
Qur’an: {And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer[1] to him than [his] jugular vein.
9: The Failure of Materialist Alternatives Random evolution does not fully explain the origin of the first cell or human consciousness. The probability challenges reappear when discussing meaningful information, coding systems, and awareness. Objective morality is not easily reduced to chemistry alone.
10: Fitrah — The Inner Witness Children naturally sense the difference between good and evil. Even many who deny God feel an instinctive pull toward a higher power in moments of danger. Qur’an: {Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan – [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy –} (Ya-Sin 36:60)
The Grand Conclusion All these lines of evidence — unity of patterns, the improbability of blind chance, fine-tuning, provision and balance, God’s self-sufficiency, human dependence, the limits of senses, biological harmony, the weakness of atheistic explanations, and inner fitrah — converge on one meaning: The universe reflects intelligent design and a wise Creator.
Look at every star, every wave, every heartbeat. Islam offers answers that connect reason, fitrah, and observable reality. Your journey has begun… will you reflect on this design for yourself?
