Islam and the Voice of Equality… in a World Torn by Religious Class Division
In human history many pages have been written with pain when the value of a person became tied to his class his lineage his sect or his position in the hierarchy of society The world has witnessed many forms of religious and class discrimination some deeply rooted in ancient cultures until a person came to be defined not by his qualities but by the rank imposed upon him But Islam from the very moment of its revelation did not remain neutral before this injustice and did not accept that dignity should be an inheritance granted to some people and denied to others Rather it declared a decisive principle that destroys the foundation of discrimination (O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.
Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of AllŒh is the most righteous of you. Indeed, AllAh is Knowing and Aware.
Discrimination created by people and justice established by God Many ancient societies built sacred class systems and made social belonging a destiny that the individual could not change Thus one person is elevated and another is humiliated not because of action or character but because of inherited status This is a form of religious injustice where legitimacy is derived from beliefs that grant one class the right to dominate and another the role of submission But Islam came to overturn this concept from its roots In Islam there is no consideration for class race lineage or wealth Responsibility is individual dignity is human and superiority is based on faith and consciousness of God The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him came as a mercy to all people and practically dismantled class divisions He established brotherhood between the master and the servant raised the status of the poor and set one standard before which all stand equally Islam does not merely address the issue socially but plants deep ethical and value based roots because the source of dignity is a just God who shows no favoritism
“When gods are many ranks multiply and when God is one dignity becomes one One of the fundamental differences between Islam and other religious traditions is that the multiplicity of gods or their class based sanctity reflects on society in a hierarchical way If the universe itself is imagined as a sacred hierarchy then it becomes natural for this hierarchy to be reflected among people But in Islam monotheism is not merely a theological idea but the foundation of equality One God creates guides judges and shows mercy So no created being holds sacred status over another and no class derives its greatness except through piety and righteous action
