How does knowing Allah grant you a rare ability to control yourself?

In a world where life is filled with temptations, pressures, and intense emotions, many people discover that the greatest battle is not with circumstances… but with themselves. Desires pull a person, anger ignites quickly, impulses scatter the mind, and the judgment of others becomes a daily verdict on one’s life.

Here the value of knowing Allah — as presented by Islam — appears as an inner strength that forms a person who is solid from within… not shaken by desire nor brought down by a moment of weakness. 1.

01

Knowing Allah creates an inner center stronger than any external pressure When a person does not possess a stable center, he becomes vulnerable to every influence: a word shakes him, a glance discourages him, a desire drags him, society pressures him.

02

But Islam presents a different concept: that a person’s center be connected to Allah, not to people. "أَ"Is not Allah sufficient for His servant? And yet they threaten you with those besides Him. And whoever Allah leads astray – for him there is no guide.

03

" — (Az-Zumar: 36) This relationship makes a person less in need of others’ approval, less afraid of their rejection, and less swept away by what they want from him. 2. When you know who created you… you become master over your desires, not their servant Knowing Allah refines the soul because it introduces the human being to his true value.

Instead of reacting impulsively to desire or anger, he begins to manage his actions consciously. Instinct is not abolished, but it comes under the leadership of reason and spirit. "But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [its] desire, then indeed, Paradise will be his refuge.

" — (An-Nazi'at: 40-41) This position… deserves this reward. 3. Knowing Allah creates an “internal accountability” stronger than any law Laws can prevent bad behavior… if someone is watching. But what about the moments when no one sees you?

Here appears the impact of knowing Allah upon the soul: not mere fear, but deep awareness that every action carries weight, and that there is an eye that never overlooks anything. "And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs [that bore you]. Verily, Allah is ever over you, Observer.

" — (An-Nisa: 1) This accountability does not imprison you… rather, it protects you. It protects you from yourself, from your impulsiveness, from decisions that may destroy you after a moment of anger or weakness. 4.

Acts of worship… practical training in self-control Fasting in Islam is not deprivation from food, but practical training in self-control. Prayer is not mere movements, but a moment of regulating breath and awareness. Zakat is not simply money that is given, but liberation from greed. Every act of worship in Islam is a school of self-mastery.

"O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous." — (Al-Baqarah: 183) Meaning that you become more conscious, more present, and more capable of restraining the self instead of letting it lead you. 5.

Knowing Allah protects you from the closest enemy: the ego and arrogance Many people think that strength means defeating others, but true strength — as Islam clarifies — is that a person defeats himself. "So do not claim yourselves to be pure. He is most knowing of who fears Him.

"And whatever you have of favor – it is from Allah." — (An-Nahl: 53)

When a person realizes that his success is not from himself, and that there is divine favor behind every step, arrogance melts away… and humility replaces it, restoring balance to the soul. Conclusion: Knowing Allah is not restriction… but liberation Islam does not ask a person to deprive himself, but to lead himself.

It does not tell you, “Be weak before your desires,” but gives you tools to be stronger than them. It does not strip you of your humanity, but elevates you above primitive reactions that imprison human beings.

For this reason, you find that the most steadfast people, the most deeply aware, and the most capable of controlling themselves… are those who found in knowing Allah an unseen strength… yet one that changes everything.
