In Sikhism God is referred to as Waheguru and described as One eternal without form without incarnation present in everything
Behind these beautiful expressions
A deeper question appears
Is God in this understanding a person who is addressed
Or a cosmic reality contemplated
First God between transcendence and abstraction
Affirming that God is without form and without incarnation carries a strong meaning of transcendence
This comes close to the concept of pure monotheism
At the same time God is sometimes presented as present in everything as if His existence extends throughout the entire universe
Here a subtle philosophical problem appears
If God is present in everything in the sense of mixture or union does He remain distinct from His creation
Is the Creator present in impurities and in places of filth
The distinction between Creator and universe defines the nature of worship
Second Is the relationship with God personal
The human being by nature seeks relationship
He wants to call and be answered
To seek forgiveness and be forgiven
To feel that there is a Lord who hears his call
If God is understood as an abstract absolute reality
Does the relationship remain personal
Or does it become spiritual contemplation closer to philosophy than to supplication
A religion built on a living relationship between servant and Lord
Differs from a spiritual conception based on general cosmic awareness
Third The difference between oneness and unity of existence
There is a subtle difference between saying that God is One
And saying that existence is one
The first means that God is separate from His creation unique in His essence and attributes
The second may be understood as the entire universe being a manifestation of the divine reality
This difference is not merely linguistic
It transforms the entire nature of faith
If God is transcendent above His creation worship is directed to Him
If He is merged with existence one would not be expected to worship a deity dwelling in filth
Fourth Can God be known clearly
In some spiritual perspectives
It is said that God is beyond complete comprehension
That the human being cannot encompass His reality
This is true in terms of divine greatness
