When Corruption Becomes a System… Who Holds the Ruler Accountable When the People Remain Silent

Why do countries rich in resources live in constant poverty Why do people work hard yet wealth accumulates in the hands of a few Why are slogans of justice raised while the weak are imprisoned and the powerful are protected The problem is not always the lack of laws Nor the absence of slogans The problem begins when authority transforms from a trust into personal ownership From here Islam begins its discussion of corruption

Authority in Islam is not a privilege but a responsibility before God Islam does not view the ruler as the shadow of God on earth Nor as someone with a divine right to rule Nor as a symbol beyond accountability He is a human being accountable before God before he is accountable before people (Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice.

01

Excellent is that which AllAh instructs you. Indeed, AllAh is ever Hearing and Seeing.

02

Authority in Islam is a trust And a trust means that the position is not your property It is a right of the people that you must fulfill for them If authority is used for personal benefit Or to protect a certain group Or to silence opposition unjustly Then this is not merely a political mistake It is a religious and moral betrayal

03

What is corruption in the scale of Islam Corruption is not merely the theft of public money Corruption is Suspending justice Favoring relatives over the qualified Using power to silence truth Exploiting the law to serve private interests The Quran uses the word corruption to describe the destruction of the moral and social order not just material damage (And when he goes away, he strives throughout the land to cause corruption therein and destroy crops and animals.

And AllAh does not like corruption.

Corruption in governance is more dangerous than individual corruption Because an individual’s injustice affects one person, but a corrupt ruler’s oppression affects an entire nation.

Why does political exploitation spread When true faith disappears authority becomes a gain If a person does not believe that he will one day stand before a Creator who knows what is hidden and what is apparent He will see the position as an opportunity for profit not service Islam addresses the roots of corruption not just its manifestations It does not rely only on human oversight It plants in the heart certainty that God sees you (And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned."AṢ-ṢĀFFĀT -24)

Imagine if every decision maker knew with certainty that he would be questioned about every oppressed person Would corruption remain as it is

Exploitation in the name of religion the most dangerous form of corruption The most dangerous form of corruption is when religion is used as a cover for tyranny When people are told Be patient with injustice because it is destiny Obey no matter how corrupt things are Do not ask do not question do not hold accountable Islam did not come to protect tyrants It came to establish justice The Prophet said All of you are shepherds and all of you are responsible for your flock Responsibility includes the ruler before the ruled

Is Islam idealistic and far from reality A non Muslim may ask These are beautiful principles but were they ever applied The answer is yes When Umar ibn al Khattab assumed leadership He said If a mule were to stumble in Iraq I would be asked about it on the Day of Judgment why did you not pave the road for it O Umar This is not political rhetoric It is true belief in accountability before God On the other hand when systems become tools to protect elite interests loyalty is bought with money and free voices are suppressed Then according to Islam this is corruption on earth

Corruption is not destiny but a result Any society that justifies small bribery Overlooks favoritism And remains silent about injustice under the excuse of realism Is planting the seeds of its own collapse Islam does not separate faith from social justice Monotheism is not just a spiritual idea It is the foundation of a just system Whoever believes that God alone is the owner will not steal Whoever believes that God is the provider will not exploit Whoever believes that God is the just judge will not betray the trust of authority

The solution from an Islamic perspective Islam does not begin by overthrowing systems It begins by reforming hearts Establishing monotheism no one is above divine law Establishing justice no difference between strong and weak Transparency and accountability the ruler is questioned Prohibiting bribery and exploitation Educating the individual on trust before position When the human being changes the system changes

The unavoidable question If political corruption is the result of the absence of fear of God Is changing laws enough without changing belief Islam offers a different vision A moral system built on the oneness of God Individual responsibility And accountability in the hereafter that cannot be escaped It is not merely administrative reform It is a deep transformation that begins from within So ask yourself honestly Which system guarantees justice more A system where the ruler fears only the press Or a system where he fears God from whom nothing is hidden Justice is not an impossible dream It begins when the human being acknowledges a Lord above him And submits to Him alone Here lies the essential difference that Islam presents to the world
