The Mystery of the Emptiness in the Human Heart Why Does the World Not Give Us Peace

Yet deep inside they feel an emptiness whose cause they do not understand

How many people reached the success they dreamed of for years then suddenly discovered that their heart was still not at peace

Why does this happen

If money were the source of happiness the rich would be the happiest people

If fame were the solution celebrities would be the most peaceful people

But reality tells us something different

The human being is not only a body

The main problem is that many people look at the human being as if he were only a body

A body that needs food

Money

Comfort

But the truth is that the human being consists of a body and a soul

The body can be satisfied with food but the soul cannot be satisfied with money

The soul needs something completely different it needs connection with its Creator

The soul knows its path

When Allah created the human being He did not leave him without guidance

He created within him a natural disposition that leads him toward his Creator

This natural disposition makes the human being feel that there is a deeper meaning to life and that his existence is not merely a passing coincidence

For this reason when a person moves far away from Allah a mysterious feeling of emptiness begins to appear in his heart

Even if his life is full of outward success

Why money cannot fill this emptiness

Imagine that you are extremely thirsty

Then someone gives you a large amount of gold

Will the gold remove your thirst

Of course not

Because gold is not the thing your body needs at that moment

In the same way money cannot fill the need of the soul

Moments of honesty with oneself

There are moments in a person’s life when he becomes completely honest with himself

It may be at night when he is alone

Or when he loses someone dear

Or when he passes through a difficult experience in life

At those moments a person begins to ask deep questions

What is the meaning of my life

Why am I here

What will happen after death

These questions are not weakness

They are evidence that the natural disposition within you is still alive

Why faith gives peace

Faith in the one God answers these questions in a clear way

Life is not meaningless and the human being was not created without purpose

He was created to know his Creator and worship Him

When a person knows his Lord a remarkable feeling of peace begins to enter his heart

A peace that does not depend on money or circumstances but on knowing that this universe has a wise Creator and that your life has meaning

Returning to the natural disposition

Islam does not ask the human being to become a different person

It only calls him to return to his original natural disposition

The natural disposition that knows that this universe has one God

The natural disposition that searches for truth

The natural disposition that desires true inner peace

For this reason many people when they learn about Islam feel something strange as if they have found something they were searching for throughout their lives

Not because Islam changed their nature but because it returned them to their true nature

To the Fitrah

So whoever AllŒh wants to guide – He expands his breast to [contain] IslŒm; and whoever He wants to send astray[1] – He makes his breast tight and constricted as though he were climbing into the sky. Thus does AllŒh place defilement upon those who do not believe.(AL‑AN‘ĀM:125)
