Why Do Millions of People Believe in a God They Have Not Seen?

In every culture of the world, and since the earliest civilizations, human beings have lifted their eyes to the sky and asked one question: Is there someone who hears me?

The question was not always philosophical.

01

Sometimes it was born from a moment of pain… or fear… or the loss of a loved one… or a feeling of loneliness in a noisy world.

02

What is remarkable is that this question did not appear in only one civilization, but in nearly all civilizations. India, China, ancient Egypt, the civilizations of South America… all recognized the idea of God, or a higher power, or a Creator.

03

So why does this belief repeat itself in every place and time?

Faith… A Universal Human Phenomenon

Anthropological studies confirm that belief in a higher power is almost a shared trait among all human societies.

The Encyclopaedia Britannica indicates that the idea of God or a higher power was present in nearly all civilizations, even the most primitive ones.

This raises a logical question:

If faith were merely an illusion… why does this “illusion” appear among all humans, despite differences in language, culture, and environment?

Is Faith Merely Fear of the Unknown?

Some thinkers say that humans invented the idea of God because they fear death or nature.

But this explanation does not answer an important question:

Why does humanity not invent other illusions with the same strength and continuity?

Humans fear illness… poverty… and old age…

Yet global doctrines about a “god of poverty” or a “god of illness” did not emerge with the same force as the idea of the one Creator God.

Belief in God is not a passing idea… but a deep feeling repeated throughout history.

What Does the Believer Actually Feel?

When a person believes in one God, he knows he is not alone. That there is One who hears his supplication, and that his life is not a blind accident.

This faith gives him:

Meaning to suffering

Hope in justice

A sense of tranquility

Studies in the psychology of religion, such as Harvard University research on spirituality and mental health, indicate that faith is often associated with lower levels of anxiety and depression, and a greater sense of meaning in life.

This reveals that faith is not a psychological illness as some imagine, but a deep human need.

Faith in Islam: Simple and Clear

Islam does not ask a person to believe in complicated secrets or mysterious symbols.

It simply tells him:

Look at yourself… and at the universe… and ask: Can all of this exist without a Creator?

Faith in Islam is not a mysterious ritual, but a direct relationship between the human being and his Lord.

A Calm Question

If belief in God were merely an illusion… why has it accompanied humanity since the beginning of history?

And why do many people feel it in the deepest moments of their lives?

Because the question about God… is not an idea a person learns, but a need he is born with.
