Multiplicity and Unity How Islam Answers Indias Greatest Question
In a moment of clarity while you walk on the land of this country an old question may shine in your mind Did this vast universe come into existence by chance And am I this thinking being merely a coincidence Or is there a Creator behind all this beauty and order Dear friend who is searching for the truth Do not fear these questions are not strange the sages of India asked them thousands of years ago philosophers asked them in every land and today the greatest scientists of the West ask them in their laboratories and observatories What is remarkable is that modern science which you might think is far from spirituality has today become one of the closest witnesses to the existence of a wise Creator First reflect with me on this universe it speaks In the book Science and Evidence of Design in the Universe three prominent scientists Dr Michael Behe in molecular biology Dr William Dembski in mathematics and Dr Stephen Meyer in philosophy of science present very strong evidence that the universe did not come by chance Let me give you simple examples of what they say If the temperature of the sun changed by only one degree the earth would either burn or freeze and life would not exist If gravity were slightly weaker the stars and galaxies would fall apart and the entire system would collapse If the percentage of oxygen in the air were slightly higher fires would ignite everywhere spontaneously And if it were lower we would suffocate Scientists call this Fine Tuning This shows that a hidden hand adjusted hundreds of measurements with astonishing precision so that life could appear in its perfect form Can chance really do all of this Chance does not create order chaos does not produce law and a finely ordered universe must have a wise Creator Second why should the Creator not be One In India there are many spiritual paths yet sincere thinking leads us to another question If the universe operates according to one constant law that never changes why should there not be one Creator behind it This is the logic of reason and this is the essence of monotheism brought by all the prophets throughout history Imagine if every star had its own independent god and every planet another god and every force in nature a god competing with others how could this universe remain stable it would collide and collapse Yet the universe we see from the smallest atom to the widest galaxy moves in astonishing harmony and this is one of the strongest proofs of the unity of the Creator Third you are not a coincidence you are an honored creation Perhaps you have experienced moments when you felt that you are more than just a body that eats sleeps and works there are moments of reflection moments of love moments of searching for a deeper meaning These moments are not illusions they are the voice of your soul searching for its origin Modern science confirms that the human body is a miracle of design Your brain contains eighty six billion neurons communicating at incredible speed Your heart beats one hundred thousand times every day without you asking it Your DNA carries information that if written in books would fill thousands of volumes Can such wonders truly be the product of blind chance Islam tells you clearly You are a purposeful creation you are honored you carry a mission in this life Fourth when the heart searches for peace it finds it in clarity Many of us try long rituals difficult spiritual journeys and many forms of meditation and worship searching for inner peace But true peace does not come from complexity it comes from clarity And what could be clearer than speaking to one God No intermediary between you and Him No complicated rituals separating you from Him Only you your heart and your Creator (And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you.
" Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.
You do not need to climb a mountain you do not need to burn incense you do not need to practice spiritual exercises for years it is enough to raise your heart to the sky and say sincerely O Lord guide me to the truth And the journey of light begins Fifth Islam when faith becomes life Perhaps you have heard about Islam and perhaps its image in your mind is incomplete let me show you some of its features Clear standards no superiority of white over black and no superiority of the rich over the poor except by righteousness Justice to be just even with those you disagree with Mercy the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said Those who show mercy will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful be merciful to those on earth and the One in heaven will be merciful to you Mercy is a way of life Family ties maintaining family relations is an act of worship and honoring parents comes immediately after worshiping God alone Cleanliness The Prophet said Purity is half of faith Half of faith is purity and order is part of belief These are not merely theoretical teachings but a life that Muslims practice every day Sixth science and Islam are not enemies In the West you may hear that science conflicts with religion but in Islam knowledge is a path to faith The Quran calls people to reflect on the universe (Say, "Observe what is in the heavens and the earth.
“(We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth.[1] But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?
